Raymond Lake stated he enlisted in the United States Air Force toward the end World War II in 1945. Because he was up for the Draft, his brother told him it would be better for him to enlist because if he was drafted it was possible that he might be put in the Navy which he didn’t want to do- for fear of being thrown overboard. Lol!
Raymond served his Country from 1945 to 1947. The Military was still segregated but he still feels he had a very good experience there. He said he basically was taught by doing the required daily regiments gentlemanly things such as how to handle his surroundings, keeping things in order and how to dress, etc.
He was stationed at bases in Atlanta, Georgia; Topeka, Kansas and Arkansas. He received an honorable discharge upon completion of his stint in the Service. He states he is now enjoying the benefits of having served in the Military. Thank You, Raymond for your Dedicated Service to our Country!
