“I would like to include in the family Newsletter that I won the “Teacher of the Year” Award for the 2010-2011 school year at Camden’s Pride Charter School. It was such an honor because I am a new teacher at this school (since March 15, 2010) and I am truly blessed to have been able to touch so many lives in such a short period of time. This award helps to confirm that I am doing God’s work and this is exactly where he wants me to be.”

“Humphrey and I also just celebrated our first Anniversary on July 3rd. It was very exciting. We spent the weekend at National Harbor, Maryland. It is a fairly new harbor and very nice. If you need a quick getaway try there, we loved it!”

******RAYMOND AND MIGNON WILSON*****************

Mignon and Raymond report that they have been busy attending classes for two weeks this summer learning to use various apparatus to help Raymond ease situations around his visual limitations. She said the computerized equipment is amazing, it speaks and includes scanners for money nominations and bar codes and allows him to be more independent in his daily living. They are grateful for this. Some of Raymond’s photographs were on Exhibit at Auburn Research Library in Atlanta, Georgia in May and June this year. There were two other guest photographer’s works shown but Raymond was the main exhibitor. Everything went well at the opening reception. Raymond and Mignon were pleased to stay with cousins Larry and Kathy Werts while visiting Atlanta. Mignon says she and Raymond are still very busy cataloging and organizing their photographs, working on the 4X6’s and the 5X7’s now. Raymond says they are blessed and he Thanks God for everything!

Mignon celebrated her Birthday at a party on August 6, 2011 given by their children at a son’s home. It was a lovely celebration with Family and Friends.

The couple will be celebrating their 58th Wedding Anniversary on October 19, 2011.

If anything matters then everything matters. Because you are important, everything you do is important. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~JAMIKA L. HELEM~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Jamika L. Helem – Great Granddaughter of the late George Lake, Jr.

I am a Probation Officer with the Fairfax Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. I provide outreach supervision (in the form of house arrest, electronic monitoring, or curfews) to juveniles awaiting trial/adjudication. I make sure offenders follow their court orders and stay out of trouble until their next court date and I make recommendations in court as to what services/consequences would be appropriate.

I love, love, love my family and enjoy spending time with them when I can. I love to read, cook and bake. I have recently made exercise and healthier eating habits a part of my lifestyle. I am also super funny!! I love to laugh and tell jokes. I am re-teaching myself Spanish and hope to become a fluent Spanish speaker. I’ve hit a few bumps in the road, but I am also eager to return back to youth ministry very soon!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We were here before the mighty words of the Declaration of Independence were etched across the pages of history. Our forebears labored without wages. They made cotton ‘king’. And yet out of a bottomless vitality, they continued to thrive and develop. If the cruelties of slavery could not stop us, the opposition we now face will surely fail. . . . Because the goal of America is freedom, abused and scorned tho’ we may be, our destiny is tied up with America’s destiny.
— “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” April 16, 1963
