“HUGS”
It’s wondrous what a hug can do – A hug can cheer you when you’re blue
A hug can say, “I love you so” or, “I hate to see you go.”
A hug is “Welcome back again,” and “Great to see you! Where’ve you been?”
A hug can soothe a small child’s pain, and bring a rainbow after rain.
The hug, there’s just no doubt about it – We scarcely could survive without it!
A hug delights and warms and charms, It must be why God gave us arms.
Hugs are great for fathers and mothers,
Sweet for sisters, swell for brothers; and chances are
your favorite aunts love them more than potted plants.
Kittens crave them, puppies love them; Heads of states are not above them.
A hug can break the language barrier, and make the dullest day seem so much merrier.
No need to fret about the store of ’em, The more you give the more there are of ’em.
So stretch those arms without delay, and Give someone a Hug Today!

“Intimate Apparel” by Lynn Nottage at Firestone CLC
Firestone Theatre presented the second main stage production of its first season in a new performance space as Lynn Nottage’s play, Intimate Apparel, brings the turn of the 20th Century to powerful life. Performances were held at 7:30 p.m. on November 17, 18, and 19, 2016. Tickets were $5.00 in advance, $8.00 at the door, and $10.00 for reserved VIP seating. All performances were held in the Linda B. Kersker Auditorium of the Firestone Community Learning Center located at 470 Castle Blvd, Akron, Ohio. (Marcus Lee as George is shown below with Esther.)
Intimate Apparel is written by the award-winning playwright Lynn Nottage (Ruined) and is set in 1905. This beautiful play features the story of Esther Mills, a skilled African-American seamstress. She as her own successful business, making lingerie for both society ladies, Mrs. Van Buren in particular, and “ladies of the night.”
The cast of Intimate Apparel is led by seniors Angelina Stallings (Esther), and Patrick Fields (Mr. Marks). The cast is completed by juniors Bree Chambers (Mrs. Dickson, Olivia Kirschbaum (Mrs. Van Buren), and Junior, Makyia Johnson (Mayme), as well as Sophomore, Marcus Lee (George).
Esther has a failed romantic relationship with George Armstrong, who is working on the Panama Canal. She has an unlikely friendship with Mr. Marks, an Orthodox Jew. The play is based on the life of Nottage’s great-grandmother. (Makyia Johnson, (Mayme) is shown above with Esther.)
Makyia and Marcus are descendants of Eartha Jeter Lee, Willa Mae Herbert Jeter and Bessie Lake Herbert
