Michael Cooper, Jr. states that he received a 1st Place Medal in a Karate Tournament in NE Philadelphia on June 3.  He now holds 12 medals.  He is still working at Philadelphia Prisons in the food service department.  He is looking forward to attending the Family Reunion this Labor Day Weekend.

 

Pamela Herbert reports she is doing well, is happily separated and is enjoying her new apartment.

 

Her son, Christopher Calloway is doing well also and received a promotion at his place of employment.

++++++++++HAPPY ONE HUNDRETH BIRTHDAY MORRIS HALEY

Mr. Morris Haley was born August 1, 1912. He celebrated his 100th Birthday on August 11 with a wonderful full course dinner with many members of his family and friends in attendance. His daughter, Patricia Haley Hawkins, says he is doing very well- is very active and plays pinochle every day. He says he just has a slight hearing problem. Daddy Morris said to his guests that he was “very happy and thankful to God to be here” and that he “appreciates all that everyone has done for him.” He received Citations from President Barack Obama and other State and City Officials. He had poems and letters written for him and picture collages and many gifts presented to him by his loving family and friends on this momentous occasion.

 Christopher(Kareem) Herbert & Chris Herbert, Sr.

Christopher (Kareem) Herbert says he is “happy he’s alive, has a job, is 23, and is trying to finish school!”  He is still working with animals at the University of Pennsylvania and he has an internship at a recording studio in downtown Philadelphia.

He was proud to have completed his 1st 5- mile walk-run with his father and brother recently. He said he likes being a big brother to his little sister “who don’t listen.”

Dad, Chris Herbert, Sr., is proud to have mastered the Tough Mudder 10-12 mile obstacle courses earlier this year which tested his all around strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie.  It was tough he said, but he conquered it!  Tough Mudder is the premier adventure challenge series in the world.  His wife, Denise and children & a few friends were there to cheer him on!

Denzel H. L. Herbert reports he is happy he just finished his freshman year at college, Drexel University.  Dorm living was an experience he said but he is very “glad to be out of that dorm!”  He’s back at home and commuting to classes!

 

He has enjoyed his summer off and is about to start his internship at the Philadelphia Water Department in the Accounting Department.   He looks forward to getting paid!!!

KYRA DENISE LYNN HERBERT SAID SHE HAD AN AWESOME SUMMER!

 

Kyra  states that things have been going good for her.  She got all A’s & B’s and one C on her report card.    Her Girl Scout cookie sale was awesome- she sold 1,002 boxes of cookies this time with the help of her mom, Denise and her brother, Denzel, who sold a lot on his college campus.  She has enjoyed being a Girl Scout and attending Girl Scout Camp this summer- their 100th Year Anniversary.  She loved going on numerous trips with the group this year. 

Kyra states she is also enjoying having a lovable cute little kitten, Midnight who is charcoal grey and has light blue eyes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHAT’S UP WITH MICHAEL HERBERT, JR.

 

Michael William Herbert, Jr. reports he is doing well, staying out of trouble and hoping to graduate from ITT Technical Institute the end of this year. He has been keeping busy working with his dad-learning everything that his dad knows and keeping abreast of things that are going on in the world today. He continues to be active at his church.

—————–STATEMENTS BY STEPHEN & STEPHANIE HERBERT

 

Stephen Israel Herbert stated he was promoted to 5th grade with a good report card. He made six new friends at school and improved in Basketball. Also he is happy that the Miami Heat won the Playoffs and LeBron James was voted MVP and won a Gold Medal in the Olympics. Stephen states that one of his goals is to eventually play with a professional basketball team. Also he wants to become rich and have a good marriage. He says he will try to improve his grades at school, make them even better than last year.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Stephanie Regina Herbert reports she was promoted to 2nd grade.  She received straight A’s.  She says she has been enjoying her summer with her brother and friends. She likes Olympic Gold Medal Winner, Gabby Douglas and is happy that she learned how to do cartwheels this summer- has been flipping all over the yard.  Steffi and her friends have been working on her block picking up trash (wearing rubber gloves) to keep her neighborhood beautiful.  She made new friends this summer and is looking forward to returning to school because she misses her old friends.  Also she is looking forward to having a Birthday sleep-over in September at a Hotel in town.

********************UPDATES FROM DARA AND DEVYN HERBERT

Dara Elizabeth reports she is happy that she going into her senior year at Tuskeegee University, and that she has only 24 more credits to complete before her graduation. She moved into her own apartment this semester in Auburn, Alabama. Also she is excited that she has a new car. Over the summer she became a member of Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church. She has enjoyed being home with her family and friends and working part-time this summer.

Devyn, Darryl, Dara & Susie

Devyn Mary states she moved up a grade with a 3.73 grade point average and was recognized by her church because of her good grades.  This summer she has enjoyed working at Watoto Summer Camp with children ages 5 & 6.  She said they drove her crazy at times and made her tired but she still returned to work every day and early!  She enjoyed visiting her sister, Dara, at Tuskeegee University for 2 weeks prior to going with her and a couple of her friends to the 44th Annual WLH Family Reunion in Orlando, Florida.  Devyn  said she has enjoyed getting a taste of college life first hand.

 

Christopher, Michael, Dara, Denzel, Devyn, Kyra, Stephen and Stephanie (listed in birth order) are the grandchildren of Fletcher and Mary Herbert of the Philadelphia Chapter of the WLH Family Reunion Circle.

Ralph Herbert, Jr. reports that his daughter, Amy Elizabeth Herbert is ready to return to college this fall and her daughter,  Saniya, is growing up nicely, walking and talking all over the house.

 

His son, Aaron is still working – is now at Wells Fargo Bank and is finishing up his degree at Temple University in Sports Management.

 

Son, Andrew is also doing well – recently visited his family in Philadelphia from Virginia.

~~~~FIRST GRADER AND KINDERGARTENER, NIYE-LAH & AMIR

Niye-lah, daughter of Lakeisha Hollingsworth and Devon Morton-Battles is going to first grade this fall – she enjoys cheering for Dynasty Spirit Elite All Stars. 

Her brother Amir will be starting kindergarten. He loves playing soccer and soft ball.

The family enjoyed a week-long vacation at a 7 bedroom/bath home with enclosed pool- they were with their aunts, uncle, grandmother and cousins during the 44th Annual WLH Family Reunion.
