^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^DARRYL MEETS DARRYL^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

DSC_2528a

. . . Two Darryl’s! They didn’t know it then but their grandfather’s had been good friends since way back in 1956 when Darryl Herbert’s Grand Pop, William Herbert, Sr.’s sister, Luecretia Herbert Haley dated and later married Darryl Fitt’s Grand Pop, Morris Haley. The two Darryl’s grandfathers had good family fun: they were both Prince Hall Masons, played pinochle and shared a garden for their family, but mostly they enjoyed going fishing together!

When the two Darryl’s met around 1991 in Philadelphia, PA, they were at their mutual friend, Damone’s house, paling around talking “men’s talk.” After awhile one of the Darryl’s mentioned he had to get home because he had to go to a cabaret that night. The other Darryl said he had to do the same thing because he was going to a Cabaret that night also. As they talked about where it was, etc., they began to realize they were going to the same Cabaret— their Family’s affair — WLH Family Cabaret!!!  One said “that’s my family;” the other responded, “that’s my family!” “Who’s your mother, who’s your father!?” they then broke out in laughter hugged at discovering they were cousins!  Lol!  Since then they have become great friends who share work (one is a general contractor and the other a master plumber!) and camaraderie.

They also have become great fisherman- going fishing every chance they get, just like their grandfathers did!

THE BREAKFAST CLUB AT PAM’S HOUSE: SATURDAY MORNINGS!

20130713_094202 (2)

The idea came from Grandma Susie who used to have Breakfasts for her husband, William Herbert, Sr. and her sons who sometimes came by early on Sunday mornings.   Grandma would fix a full breakfast including biscuits or hot rolls and tell the guys they could stay at the house if they wanted until they got back home from church.  This was a tradition for the family to get together each week to catch up and share some time together.  She prepared these breakfasts for many years until she could no longer do it and before she went Home to be with the Lord.

Pamela began cooking the breakfasts on Saturdays after Grand pop died.  Initially it was just Pam and her dad, Ralph Herbert, Sr., and then they branched into adding more people.  “Father’s Day Breakfasts began later with her dad and his brothers” Pam said.   She invited her uncle’s William Herbert, Jr. (June), Fletcher and Earnest who were glad to go to Pam’s.   The Breakfast Club has grown: it now occurs almost every Saturday and includes in addition to her dad and uncles; her sons, Michael & Christopher; her brother, Ralph, Jr. (Cubby); cousins, Earnie & sometimes Chris and her nephews, Aaron and sometimes Andrew. Pam’s cousin Michael and his son Stephen joined the family at Pam’s recently and Stephen  said he loved the breakfast and is proud to say afterwards he beat his older cousins Christopher and Aaron in NBA 2K13 on the X Box 360. They had fun!

Breakfast is served in “pecking order” –the younger guys are always served last-they don’t eat until the elders have had their fill.  This is always a cause for a lot of fun.  Lol!   If someone misses a Breakfast, you can bet they’ll get a picture of the food texted to them to show them what they missed!

Every Saturday all the guys continue to look forward to gathering at Pam’s.  She starts cooking early in the morning, preparing and serving a full course Breakfast (ready by 9 am)  that includes a big fruit salad, bacon, sausages (turkey & pork), ham, sometimes scrapple; eggs, grits, home fried potatoes, blueberry pancakes, waffles – sometimes French toast; rolls, English muffins, OJ, milk, coffee with  all kinds of flavored creams.  They ALL look forward to being together each week, laughing and telling stories and reminiscing about old times.  They then like to watch re-runs of The Big Bang Theory and sometimes don’t leave her house until 1:30-2pm!

Pam stated, I want people to value the importance of family and recognize that our time together should be precious and rewarding. I may do all the
work but what those guys give back to me is more valuable—That’s love!!!”

******RAYMOND AND MIGNON WILSON*****************

Mignon and Raymond report that they have been busy attending classes for two weeks this summer learning to use various apparatus to help Raymond ease situations around his visual limitations. She said the computerized equipment is amazing, it speaks and includes scanners for money nominations and bar codes and allows him to be more independent in his daily living. They are grateful for this. Some of Raymond’s photographs were on Exhibit at Auburn Research Library in Atlanta, Georgia in May and June this year. There were two other guest photographer’s works shown but Raymond was the main exhibitor. Everything went well at the opening reception. Raymond and Mignon were pleased to stay with cousins Larry and Kathy Werts while visiting Atlanta. Mignon says she and Raymond are still very busy cataloging and organizing their photographs, working on the 4X6’s and the 5X7’s now. Raymond says they are blessed and he Thanks God for everything!

Mignon celebrated her Birthday at a party on August 6, 2011 given by their children at a son’s home. It was a lovely celebration with Family and Friends.

The couple will be celebrating their 58th Wedding Anniversary on October 19, 2011.
