2016 GRADUATES OF NEWBERRY HIGH SCHOOL

The Newberry Chapter of the Wilson Lake Herbert Family Reunion Circle would like to honor some our future young leaders of this reunion and the world. They have excelled in the classroom and on the athletic field. They all were members of the 2016 Class of Newberry, SC. High School. We honor:

Jay Conway, son of Linda and Jeff Conway and grandson of our Chapters First President Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Werts SR. Jay graduated with honors and will be attending University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg, SC.

Jacerre Caldwell, son of Shonda Werts Caldwell and Cecil Caldwell graduated with class superlatives. “Poppy” as we call him is currently enrolled in Jireh Preparatory Academy in Charlotte, NC.

Yafari Werts, son of Forrest Werts, III and Shona Watts Rice. Yafari who is also known as, “Shai” is currently enrolled at Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Georgia on a full scholarship. Poppy and Shai are both the grandsons of the Chapters 3rd President Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Werts JR.

This is a photo of members of our chapter and your family on their next to last game of their high school football careers.  They are pictured here with their Aunt Allyson Nelson.  These two guys were both Captains of the team that went to the State Championship Game two years in a row.  Even though they came up short, they will always be CHAMPIONS to us.  Jacerre Caldwell, (Poppy) is wearing #30 and Yafari Werts, (Shai) is wearing #1.

Defensive End

North and South All Star Football Team.

2015 AA Upper Defensive Lineman of the year.

Newberry County Touchdown All County Team 2014 and 15.

Newberry High School Defensive Lineman of the year 2014 and 15.

#2 in the state of South Carolina in sacks.

YAFARI WERTS–

SC AA Offensive Player of the Year 2015.

AA All Region Team.

South Carolina vs. North Carolina Shrine Football Team.

Newberry High School Offensive Back of Year 2014 and 15.

Newberry Touchdown Club Recipient of Willie Scott Award for Player of the Year.

Graduated with honors and 4.0 average.

Four Year Scholarship to Georgia Southern University in Football.

On July 13, 2013 Robert Jeter “Uncle Bob” was honored at Tire Town’s 63rd Golf outing.  Robert has been a member of the golf club for over thirty years.  

He is one of the oldest members.  Akron’s Mayor Don Plusquellic presented a proclamation to the Tire Town Golf Club for its continued service to the Akron Community.

Marcus Lee, son of Michael and Betty Lee, was a key member of the Pirates who were crowned WABL G League Champs on July 6, 2013.  Marcus plays third base and center field. 

In April of this year Marcus earned a yellow belt in Karate. 

Additionally, Marcus is a member of Arlington Church of God, where he serves on the Junior Usher Board and sings on the Youth Choir.  This fall Marcus will be entering 7th Grade at the Arlington Christian Academy.

Kyra Herbert has been enjoying her summer at Summer Camp everyday. She played Soccer with the Enon Girl’s Soccer Team and was instrumental in their winning the championship this year. In late June she had a great time vacationing with her parents and brother’s, Kareem and Denzel on a cruise in Canada. And she is excited about returning to C.W. Henry School in September where she will enter the 6th Grade.

——–TRACEY AND RAYMOND WILSON, II AND FAMILY——–


Todd Johnson attends The Avalon School where he carries a 3.9 GPA; he is an aspiring student athlete. Todd plays Varsity Football & Basketball, for varsity basketball Todd plays shooting guard. In one crucial game Todd scored a buzzer beater that won the game and set the team up to get a high seed in the end of year tournament which they won. Todd also played varsity football where he made First Team All-Conference. Todd played wide receiver and outside linebacker, Todd averaged 6 open field tackles and numerous assists. Todd will be a graduating senior the year and we are looking forward to him duplicating or surpassing his accomplishment of the past year both academically and athletically. Todd attended Hampton University for 5 weeks this summer in an Advanced Preparatory Course.

Tracy Johnson is the youngest son of Tracey and Raymond Wilson II. Tracy attends The Avalon School Where he is a good student and a flourishing athlete. Tracy plays Jr. Varsity and Varsity Basketball where he was a force to be reckoned with. As a part of the JV team Tracy averaged 20 to 25 point per game, 2 rebounds, 4.5 steals, 5 assists which lead the JV Team to a 13 – 1 record one of the best seasons ever. Tracy also played on the Varsity team were he had limited playing time as a freshman but he shine when he played. Tracy participated in two home study courses for English Literature from Montgomery Community College where his aunt, Dr. Miller Newman is an Administrator.

Todd and Tracy Johnson are the children of Raymond & Tracey Wilson II. The boys very busy during the school year. The family resides in Temple Hills, MD

Paris Smith, age 15, has attended Henry A. Wise High School in Maryland for the past 2 years. Paris has been promoted to the 10th grade and has made the Honor Roll the last 3 years transitioning from Middle school to High school.

Paris loves sports his passion is Basketball. Paris plays for Wise High school as well as AAU Basketball in Maryland, DC and Virginia leagues. Paris is a very loving and compassionate person he loves working with children. Paris has just completed his volunteer work at Prince Georges Parks and Recreation Center of Maryland as a youth counselor with the 10 and under children. Paris looks forward to continuing his work at the center next summer as he earns credits for high school and get his work permit to start his first job at the center. PHOTO OF MALEEK THOMPSON

Maleek Thompson, age 11, has been a member of the AAU Football league in Maryland for the past 4 years. He has attended Benjamin Foulois a Performing Arts school in Maryland for 1 year. His major is drama/theatre and playing the saxophone.

For the past 3 years Maleek has been on the Honor Roll and has received numerous awards in the following areas: Perfect Attendance, Math, Reading, English, Science and several awards by quarters congratulating him on being an excellent role model. Maleek also has numerous awards in sports: Golf, Bowling, running track & field and basketball and football. He loves sports. He will start 6th grade this fall.

Paris and Maleek are the sons of Angela Boone who is the daughter of Lonnie and Eunice Boone. Angela is the Great Granddaughter of the late, James and Inez Wilson.

Mike reports he is very happy to state he has recently started working at a new job and is using his skills as a cook.

He recently landed a job at the Philadelphia Prison Systems in Northeast Philadelphia and he loves it.  He missed attending this years Family Reunion because he had to report to work, but he was glad to have a job.  He is happy to now be a union member.

In March this year Michael placed 1st in a Karate fighting competition at the Philadelphia Convention Center and received a trophy. See photo. Congratulations Mike! Mike’s mom is Pamela D. Lee and his Grand Pop is Ralph Herbert, Sr.

YA’FARI WERTS IS ON THE PRINCIPAL’S HONOR ROLL FOR THE 6TH STRAIGHT YEAR!

YA’FARI WERTS son of Forrest Werts, III, will be attending Bell Street Middle School in Clinton, SC – entering the 7th grade.

For the 6th straight year he has been on the Principal’s Honor Roll and the Honor Roll. During the summer, he attended Champs Academic Program at Presbyterian College where over 400 students in the State of South Carolina were selected to attend. He also excels in many sports, playing all star baseball, football and basketball. Keep up the good work, Ya’Fari!

ALYSON NELSON of Newberry, SC, graduated from Gadsden State Community College in Gadsden, Alabama.   Also, she finished 3rd in the State of Alabama in Track.   Congratulations on your hard work, Alyson.
