PROM NIGHT

 

Kennise Baker, great-granddaughter of the late George Lake Jr., graduated from West Potomac High School on June 15th, 2012.  She received an Advanced Diploma with a seal of academic excellence along with a plaque from the National Pan-Hellenic Council for her academic achievements throughout her high school career.

 

During the summer, Kennise has volunteered at Gum Springs Head Start program as a teacher’s assistant and has been involved with various church related activities.

 

This fall Kennise will be attending Radford University which is located in Southeast Virginia. There she will be studying social work and is very excited to start living in her freshman dorm of Muse Hall.

NEWS FROM FORREST WERTS, III, PROUD FATHER OF YAFARI WERTS

Forrest Werts, III

 

YAFARI WERTS, son of FORREST WERTS, III and SHONA MOORE, was on the Honor Roll once again this year (he has been on the Honor Roll each report period since he started school).

 

Forrest said about his son, “We are very happy to say he has been contacted by People to People to travel to Spain next year. This summer, Yafari enjoyed attending Champs Academic Camp in Clinton, S.C. at Presbyterian College for two weeks. And he has continued to show all around excellence in sports, playing Baseball, Basketball and Football. He is going into the 8th grade at Bell Street Middle School. We’re proud of you, Yafari!”

**THE NORRISTOWN CHAPTER OF THE WLH FAMILY REUNION CIRCLE

**Sha’Ron Parrish was promoted to fifth grade and will be attending Stewart Middle School. For her perfomance in fourth grade Sha’Ron received awards for Academic Achievement, Reading Excellence and the Teacher’s Award of a $100.00 dollar savings bond.

 

**Ameesha Davis was promoted to 11th grade at Norristown High School.

 

**Ariah Hall graduated from Methacton High School. All three young ladies, Sha’Ron, Ameesha and Ariah are the great-granddaughters of Virginia Livingston.

 

**Tyler Edwards was promoted to 7th grade at Renaissance Charter School. Tyler plays point guard on the middle school basketball team.

 

**Sarah Culbreath was promoted to 8th grade at East Norriton Middle School. Sarah is the daughter of Todd Culbreath, President of the Norristown Chapter and the Granddaughter of RoseMarie Lake Culbreath.

 

**Brandon Walker graduated from Central High School receiving an International Baccalaureate Diploma awarded to graduates who maintained at least a 90 average for the four years of high school. Central High School and Boston Latin High School are the only two high schools in America that award this type of diploma/degree. His family is extremely proud of him. He will be attending Penn State University. Brandon is the son of Olie “O.J.” Walker and is the grandson of Doris Lake Walker.
**Regina Porter completed her freshman year at Benedict College and attained the School of Honors status for her academic of maintaining a 3.2 Grade Point Average. She has been chosen to be a foreign exchange student in Morocco. Regina will be attending Al Alkwayne University in Ifrane, Morocco from August 22 through December 18. Regina is the daughter of proud mama Sherika Baily.
Hanoi Darden, granddaughter of Carl Lake and great-granddaughter of Ephraim Lake Jr. completed her sophomore year at Johnson C. Smith University, where she was voted Sophomore of the Year. Hanoi was chosen to participate in a two week summer program at Duke University called the PhD Pipeline Opportunity Program.

 

**RoseMarie Lake Culbreath attends art class at The Philadelphia Museum of Art in a program for visually handicapped persons. The class titled “Form In Art” teaches sculpture with clay and paper- ma-che’. The class has yearly exhibits at the Museum and other venues such as The Wills Eye Hospital. Rose has been attending classes for the past twenty plus years and has even sold one of her sculptures. The exhibit is currently on display at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

 

**Ephraim Lake has been hospitalized twice this past year, but is now at home being cared for by his devoted wife Katie, and with God’s Grace is on the mend. Keep “Mutt” and Katie in your prayers.

>>>>DENZEL HERBERT’S GRADUATION AND PROM SEND-OFF<<<<<

Denzel received several awards at his graduation in June from George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science.

He was awarded for proficiency in Math, Science and Reading and Perfect Attendance. He was accepted at all of the colleges he applied to but he chose Drexel University which is in Philadelphia. He will be on Campus starting in September majoring in Accounting. Congratulations, Denzel!!!

Denzel attended 2 Proms this year. He went to his own Prom with his long time good friend, Grier.  SEE VIDEO BELOW of their Prom send-off.

On June 10th Justin-Devin Maurice Haley attended his Senior Prom at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom at 201 S. Christopher Columbus Boulevard in the Penn’s Landing area of Philadelphia.

He Graduated from the Maritime Academy Charter High School  the following week on June 16th with an Honor’s Award for Music Achievements and will be attending college at Mansfield University as a Music Business and Technical Major.

Shown below are photos of Justin with his friends at the Prom and Justin with his grandmother, Patricia H. Hawkins; a photo of him when he was in Kindergarten and with his parents, Devin & Jaionne at IHOP when they picked him up after the Prom.

 



 

Justin loves music and always has; he plays the Keyboard, Drums and the Acoustic Guitar; he also writes songs and poetry and performs Spoken Word and has received several awards for his abilities.

We are very proud of the young and promising gentleman and musician he has become.

“My name is Kennise Baker, one of my goals was to become an A-B honor roll student and I finally accomplished that task. I also received a plaque from my teacher for being a studious young lady. My plans for my Junior year is to remain an A-B honor roll student even though my course schedule will consists of: AP English, AP US History, Geometry, Chemistry 1, Spanish 3, Criminal Justice 1 and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID – 2nd year in this program). My future plans are to attend James Madison University and become a counselor or social worker.”

Kennise’ mom, Denise King, reports that Kennise has been invited to travel and study in England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland in the summer of 2011 with “People to People” an educational exploration program founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Kennise was identified because of her participation in the College Board Student Search Service- the organization that administers the SAT and PSAT. Her mother says “this is a great opportunity for Kennise that she may take advantage of next year.” She said, she is “so proud of her.”

Kennise is a student at West Potomac High School and resides in Alexandria, VA. with her mom, Denise King.

Todd Johnson attends The Avalon School where he carries a 3.9 GPA; he is an aspiring student athlete. Todd plays Varsity Football & Basketball, for varsity basketball Todd plays shooting guard. In one crucial game Todd scored a buzzer beater that won the game and set the team up to get a high seed in the end of year tournament which they won. Todd also played varsity football where he made First Team All-Conference. Todd played wide receiver and outside linebacker, Todd averaged 6 open field tackles and numerous assists. Todd will be a graduating senior the year and we are looking forward to him duplicating or surpassing his accomplishment of the past year both academically and athletically. Todd attended Hampton University for 5 weeks this summer in an Advanced Preparatory Course.

Tracy Johnson is the youngest son of Tracey and Raymond Wilson II. Tracy attends The Avalon School Where he is a good student and a flourishing athlete. Tracy plays Jr. Varsity and Varsity Basketball where he was a force to be reckoned with. As a part of the JV team Tracy averaged 20 to 25 point per game, 2 rebounds, 4.5 steals, 5 assists which lead the JV Team to a 13 – 1 record one of the best seasons ever. Tracy also played on the Varsity team were he had limited playing time as a freshman but he shine when he played. Tracy participated in two home study courses for English Literature from Montgomery Community College where his aunt, Dr. Miller Newman is an Administrator.

Todd and Tracy Johnson are the children of Raymond & Tracey Wilson II. The boys very busy during the school year. The family resides in Temple Hills, MD

Paris Smith, age 15, has attended Henry A. Wise High School in Maryland for the past 2 years. Paris has been promoted to the 10th grade and has made the Honor Roll the last 3 years transitioning from Middle school to High school.

Paris loves sports his passion is Basketball. Paris plays for Wise High school as well as AAU Basketball in Maryland, DC and Virginia leagues. Paris is a very loving and compassionate person he loves working with children. Paris has just completed his volunteer work at Prince Georges Parks and Recreation Center of Maryland as a youth counselor with the 10 and under children. Paris looks forward to continuing his work at the center next summer as he earns credits for high school and get his work permit to start his first job at the center. PHOTO OF MALEEK THOMPSON

Maleek Thompson, age 11, has been a member of the AAU Football league in Maryland for the past 4 years. He has attended Benjamin Foulois a Performing Arts school in Maryland for 1 year. His major is drama/theatre and playing the saxophone.

For the past 3 years Maleek has been on the Honor Roll and has received numerous awards in the following areas: Perfect Attendance, Math, Reading, English, Science and several awards by quarters congratulating him on being an excellent role model. Maleek also has numerous awards in sports: Golf, Bowling, running track & field and basketball and football. He loves sports. He will start 6th grade this fall.

Paris and Maleek are the sons of Angela Boone who is the daughter of Lonnie and Eunice Boone. Angela is the Great Granddaughter of the late, James and Inez Wilson.
