STEPHANIE REGINA HERBERT

Stephanie states she will be going into 3rd grade this year, in room 12 at A.B. Day School.  She is proud to say she was on the Honor Roll again this year, received all A’s & B’s. In June this year Stephanie was recognized by the School District of Philadelphia for her Art Work.  (See Photos below).

She says she had fun on a trip to New York this summer-realizing her dream of going to American Girl Place and also buying a doll who she named Paris Brooklyn Herbert.  She was thrilled to be at a Tea Party there with some of her family and her new doll.  She enjoyed a Chocolate Mousse Flower Pot desert- she put the Flower in her dolls hair. On the way home from NY she met a friend who said she also had an American Girl Doll, they had fun talking and singing songs.

Stephanie was recognized for her Art Work by the School District of Philadelphia at a Reception.  She received a monetary award from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in June, 2013.

Stephen reports he had a good school year last year in the 5th grade, liked his teacher’s, Mrs. Rooney and Mr. Warr.  He’s happy he reached his goal of making the Honor Roll.  He’s also happy that Miami Heat won another Championship and Lebron James was voted MVP again. 

Stephen reports he enjoyed his trip to New York City with his family.  He saw an MMG Chain in one of the store windows they passed by.  He liked Times Square and the Skyline Helicopter (Virtual Tour of New York) at the Empire State Building.

This term-6th grade Stephen states he’ll try out for his school’s Basketball Team.  He’s is scheduled to be in room 203 this term, upstairs at A.B. Day School.  Also he is looking forward to going with other Honor Roll Students from grades 4 to 8 to the Spirit of Philadelphia Cruise Dance & Dinner party again next year.

On July 13, 2013 Robert Jeter “Uncle Bob” was honored at Tire Town’s 63rd Golf outing.  Robert has been a member of the golf club for over thirty years.  

He is one of the oldest members.  Akron’s Mayor Don Plusquellic presented a proclamation to the Tire Town Golf Club for its continued service to the Akron Community.

Marcus Lee, son of Michael and Betty Lee, was a key member of the Pirates who were crowned WABL G League Champs on July 6, 2013.  Marcus plays third base and center field. 

In April of this year Marcus earned a yellow belt in Karate. 

Additionally, Marcus is a member of Arlington Church of God, where he serves on the Junior Usher Board and sings on the Youth Choir.  This fall Marcus will be entering 7th Grade at the Arlington Christian Academy.

Denzel states he’s doing OK.  He has Finals coming up next week and is studying hard to bring up his GPA.  He’s in his 2nd year at Drexel University.  He took six classes this summer and worked part-time.  Denzel is looking forward to  starting an Internship next month at the School District of Philadelphia office. 

He’s counting down ‘til his birthday in October- when he becomes “legal.” Lol

DSC_1756Christopher Herbert, Jr.  says he’s having a good summer so far, mostly working. He is looking for a better job and wants to buy a car. He’s proud to say he graduated from college in March this year from The Art Institute of Philadelphia with an Associate’s Degree in Digital Film Making and Video Production. He feels blessed that he’s living in his own apartment but would like to go back to the days when he would fall asleep on the couch and wake up in his bed, no concerns- a time when he had freedom and no responsibilities: he didn’t have to cook, clean, wash clothes or pay bills, Lol. He wants someone to carry him- he wants to fly, but doesn’t want to have to flap his wings, he just wants to soar.  Lol. He said his parents used to say ‘enjoy your youth while you’re young,’ “but I would always say to them, I can’t wait ‘til I get grown!” A bit of advice he would like to give to all of his young cousins is to “live and enjoy your life and don’t worry about what other people are doing! At the end of the day, what they’re doing won’t help or hurt you. Follow your dreams!”

Here are some photos that I shot last night. We had a great time celebrating! The cute pic of ‘Young Reem’ shown at his 1st graduation from kindergarten in 1995- at Small World Discovery Center was featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer Newspaper

Congratulations go out to Team Owner, AARON HERBERT who is now the new team owner of the Philadelphia Liberty Basketball League (CBL- Community Basketball League)  a semi-pro team. 

Taken From the Press Release:  Herbert, who played guard when he attended Abraham Lincoln High School in Philadelphia, plans on pursuing a career as an athlete agent when he graduates from Temple University.  “As a CBL owner, even though my primary focus is on my players enjoying themselves, I would love using my agent skills and connections to help my players develop their talent and pursue their goal of playing in the NBA and overseas.”

This is News from the family of Willie and Helen Lake of the DC Chapter, Washington, DC. Willie is the son of the late Lossie Mae Lake who was the first Treasurer of the WLH Washington, DC Chapter:

Willie Lake, Sr., received a beautiful blue and gold trophy from the S.M.A.C.V.A. Car Show this spring when he entered his 1956 Plymouth Belvedere in their car show.

Helen Lake is spending her spare time learning and speaking French in the ministry work. She is actively engaged in this new endeavor by working with persons whose native language is French. Bonjour. Bonne journée.

Willie Lake, Jr., our son, received a Safety Award for Outstanding Safe performance of Bus Maintenance for the past three consecutive years, at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

Malik Johnson, our grandson, enjoyed working as a junior counselor again this summer for Watkins Day Camp. He bought himself a beautiful black mini-Suzuki motorcycle with one of his pay checks.

He says the bike is up for sale now at a bargain price of $300 – 400. Anyone interested? Contact his mom, Karen Lake (our daughter) if so. (See bike below):photo malik's mini suzuki motorcycle (2)

Lania Lake, our granddaughter, graduated from Kindergarten to the First Grade. She received awards in excellence in Reading, Math, Penmanship and Citizenship. Lauren Lake, our granddaughter, was promoted to the 3rd grade.   She received recognition for being an Honor Roll student throughout the school year, as well as for her achievements in Mathematics and Reading.
