George Lake would be so proud of his family
Carolyn King and family 2014 – DC Chapter
FAMILY PORTRAIT OF THE OFFSPRING OF THE LATE, GEORGE LAKE
On September 23, 2013, Harper Addison Stone was born to Jamika Helem shown on right (great granddaughter of the late, George Lake) and Calvin Stone. Jamika’s proud father, shown left of Jamika, is Joe King and matriarch of the family Carolyn Lake King is holding Baby Harper. Baby Harper was born at 6:06 am weighing 8 pounds and 12 ounces. Harper is the great, great granddaughter of the late George Lake. Harper is now 10 months old and weighs 23 pounds. Harper has been a very happy baby from the start. She was laid back as a new born and only cried when it was time to eat. Harper loves to smile a lot and she loves to laugh and be silly. So far Harper is a very intelligent, curious, and perceptive baby who loves to explore. She doesn’t miss a thing and is always on the move! Harper recently began crawling and can stand on her own. She is very eager to walk and we expect her first steps to be any day now. Harper loves playing “Pat-A-Cake” and “Peek-A-Boo”. So far, Harper is not a very picky eater and she enjoys feeding herself like a big girl. She has quite an independent streak! Harper can say about 5 words, she can wave “bye bye” and blow kisses. She enjoys blowing bubbles, going to the pool, bath time, crawling around and climbing with her friends at day care, singing and dancing, and making her mommy laugh. She has been such a blessing to our family. No matter what kind of day we are having, Harper has a way of brightening it a bit. We all love her dearly and anticipate all the great things and experiences that are yet to come in her life!
Kennise Baker (shown left in photo with her mother, Denise King) great grand-daughter of the late George Lake, will be entering her junior year of college this year at Radford University. While at school Kennise has dedicated her time to volunteering at Unity Christian Church’s weekly Community Table event where they help feed the Radford Community. She also interned at the Women’s Resource Center in the Radford Area where she received crisis intervention training and supported women suffering from post-abusive relationships. During the summer she is working at Gum Springs Head Start Center as a substitute teacher and is excited for the new experiences that await her in Radford.
Brandi White (shown top center with her husband, Morris White) (she is a great-granddaughter of George Lake, DC Chapter) gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Brendan Morris White, on November 2, 2013. Brandi continues to serve military families as a financial counselor with the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society. Her husband, Morris White, returned from an eight month deployment onboard the USS Harry S Truman on March 5, 2014. Their daughter, Morgan White, will continue preschool at Jolliff Day School in the fall in the PK3 class. The family continues to serve their local community with their church, Point Harbor Community Church. Proud grandmother of Morgan & Brandan is Joyce Mangum holding baby Brandan in family photo.
